It didn't hit its peak, however, until nearly 8pm with Weezer's mainstage opening salvo, a cover of Black Sabbath's "War Pigs." The 19,000 who'd roamed the fest's three stages since the morning were on their feet cheering for all of Weezer's 14-song set until the long, carnival-like day finally made the crowd lose steam near the end of the energetic hour-and-a-half from headliners Blink-182 that followed.

Virgin founder Richard Branson's 2009 iteration of his annual Maryland music festival had taken a turn toward the recession-minded; this year the one-day fest featured free tickets and V.I.P. treatment for concertgoers who had done charity work. The bands on the bill eschewed their paychecks to play. Under the trees at Merriweather Post Pavillion, this message was telegraphed by a number of well-choreographed stunts and a zillion corporate sponsors with logos and giveaway tents everywhere. Between a midway lined with Kyocera's "lay-off" lounge (odd, for a fest lineup that clearly drew folks under 25) and well-attended Gibson and Converse tents, Blink-182's Tom DeLonge and Flavor Flav guest bartending unannounced in the charity oriented "Karma Bar," the branded skydivers parachuting over the venue and landing on the pavilion roof, and of course the 19 artists playing the three stages, the 12-hour event had the feeling of one big, slick non-stop fair.

The fans may have been out there trying to snag all the swag on offer, but it was also clear that most came for the music. Even at 1 in the afternoon, St. Vincent caught a large, appreciative crowd on the west stage as she did a solo cover of the Beatles' "I Dig A Pony," just her voice and black stratocaster, before her band joined her again for "Laughing With a Mouth Full of Blood." Simultaneously, Holy Fuck's quartet of dark-haired guys formed a semi-circle and bent to creating their throbbing beat on the dance stage out in the woods to another clutch of thousands.

Mates of State warmed up the main stage with their easy, poppy sounds ("Fraud In The 80s"), but festivities under the big roof didn't seem to really get underway until pop-punk New Yorkers Taking Back Sunday took their turn around 3pm to a chorus of high-pitched screams. They crammed fifteen songs into their hour-long set, drawing from their new album "New Again" ("Sink Into Me," "Lonely Lonely") as well as each of their previous sets, 2002's "Tell All Your Friends" ("So Last Summer"), 2004's "Where You Want To Be" ("180 By Summer"), and 2006's "Louder Now" ("MakeDamnSure"). Later, the band told Billboard.com that the next single will be ""Where My Mouth Is."

Soon the west stage emerged as the more informal, though no less popular, place to get rocked. The Hold Steady brought waves of sturdy verse chorus verse to the west while on the pavilion stage Jet strutted through songs from new album, "Shaka Rock," which debuted on the Billboard 200 last week at No. 5. The Aussie rawkers got their biggest surge from the crowd, however, when they pulled out their most familiar song, the Stooges-ey "Are You Gonna Be My Girl" from 2003.

Public Enemy captivated on the west stage come 5pm, with solider-dancers in camouflage uniforms moving in lockstep behind Chuck D and Flavor Flav's tag team rapping. The audience was thrilled mainly to see Flav, as they had chanted his name earlier during his bartending stunt. He really milked the attention too: sticking around after the set to play a few beats on the drum kit, giving out stickers and CDs and talking extensively to the crowd as roadies tore down their equipment to make room for The National, who were up next. "Thank you for making me No. 1 on TV," Flav said. "And good luck at school!"

After press photographers had to be warned about bodies surfing over the barricade onto their heads, it was no surprise that Weezer and Blink-182, under a bright moon, enjoyed the fest's biggest crowd and biggest cheers. Weezer, dressed all in red, followed "War Pigs" with "Hash Pipe," the first of many singalongs during their hit laden set ("Undone," "Say It Ain't So," "Buddy Holly"). They closed with the Clash's "Should I Stay Or Should I Go," and the band had the lyrics on a sheet taped next to the setlist at thier feet.

Next, Tom DeLonge launched Blink-182's set with "Dumpweed" and "Feeling This," peppering the set with jocular banter ("My name's so awesome it has it's own cock and balls!"). Blink got lots of singing along and plenty of hoots for drummer Travis Barker; the audience nearly drowned out the band during "What's My Age Again?." The crowd sustained their gleeful pushing and shouting for several songs, but as the band brought the fest to a close, just about everyone in sight seemed beat, facing a long drive home and a Monday morning. But hey, you could do much worse than to spend one of the last weekends of summer seeing free music under a perfect blue sky.

Source:Billboard.com

Collaborators Arctic Monkeys and Dizzee Rascal top albums and singles charts

<img style="float:right; margin:0 0 10px 10px;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 213px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_bW3C39IIMfM/SpynwV-3PqI/AAAAAAAAALw/u5L-_hYy6kk/s320/artic+monkey.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5376356504149900962" />
Sometime collaborators Arctic Monkeys and Dizzee Rascal have topped the UK albums and singles respectively tonight (August 30).

Arctic Monkeys' third album 'Humbug' is Number One - it out-sold the rest of the Top Five combined - while the east London rapper has scored his third chart-topper in a row with 'Holiday'.

Both acts recorded 'Temptation Greets You Like Your Naughty Friend' together, and have released versions of the track on their own records.

The UK Top Ten singles are:

1. Seeing this situation, a legal scholar in Cambridge Massachusetts proposed a radical plan for a system that he claims would pay artists fairly and bring more digital media to the people who desire for it. But persuading both the music industry and the movie industry in liking the idea seems far fetched, or at least in the near future.

Rather than adapting with the current and failing copyright system, Harvard Law School professor Terry Fisher talked more about his proposal at the Internet Law Program, a three day event sponsored by the school’s Berkman Center for Internet and Society.

Fisher favors an alternate compensation system which could pay artists based on the popularity of their music. For this system to work, artists must register with the copyright office first, which would help them in tracking the times whenever work is downloaded. The revenue coming from the taxes such as for the Internet access and the sale of MP3 players would generate money that would eventually be used to pay for the artists.

The RIAA, or Recording Industry Association of America, which stands for the labels, has been using the copyright law to sue thousands of music enthusiasts for infringement since September. But according to Fisher, more than 60 million people still continue to share music via peer to peer networks. In accordance with this, Fisher said that his substitute model would allow music enthusiasts to get more music for less money, without the fear of any legal action against them from the RIAA. Therefore, all artists would get paid better than they are under the accustomed system.

While record industry executives did not show any particular interest in the idea, Fisher said that there are much more significant prospects for producing this system in other countries. To back this up, Fisher said that Brazil is interested on the idea and is already building a data base of digital music, an act supported by the country’s minister of culture, musician Gilberto Gil. If this system works successfully in Brazil for a few years, with the music industry in the US continue to suffer then an alternative compensation system may be more alluring.

But according to Fisher, the U.S. would more likely be embracing the idea on a voluntary version, which would require the participation of both musicians and music fans to be successful, and can provide funds through subscription revenues.

By: music business

When Is The Best Time To Love Music?

Your expression for the love of music comes out in many ways. Your music collection is a testimony of how much you adore music. But are there times you love yours blues, indie, emo, or alternative songs more than others?
Depending on the time, your love for music varies. There are moments you will prefer watching your music videos to listening to the blues or alternative songs. This is all natural. You feel and experience things differently from time to time in life. And your preference for music at these times also changes. However, this does not mean that you love music any less, but you just like listening to a different type at that point in time.

You can love music all the time. Conspicuously topping this list are musician and all people who work in the field. They live and breathe music. They wake up to music and sleep with it. You will be surprised that you appreciate and love music in a similar manner. That is why you always have the emo, indie or blues song quietly playing at the back of your mind. You find yourself humming to it endlessly. It is forever strumming your heart. Even without carrying your ipod with you, it just keeps on playing. That is how you love music at all times.

One of the best times to love music is during the early years of your life. Although this happens naturally, taking the time to know music and understand it is quite satisfying. Sampling different music is equally beautiful. Find out what your friends listen to. Start owning a collection. Listening to music as a hobby, make it enjoyable. You can also learn to draw lessons from it. The result is that you grow to deeply appreciate music as an art. That is what happens when you love from tender years.

You can love music more depending on the happenings in your life. You tend to love music more when going through tough times in life. You play it often and it seems you can’t get enough of it. Such instances are marked by moments of grief, a failed relationship, loss of a job, or simple misfortune in life. This is when your emo, indie or alternative music comes into play. You hear it differently and the words hold new meaning. Such are the times you can love music more.

You enjoy music the most when life is good to you and you can help but express your joy. This is where you go out to celebrate with people you hold dear. You love the blues and indie songs being played in the background. Sometimes, you can’t help but dance to it. Maybe we'll find four songs that work together and we'll call that a release. I don't know. No one knows how to release music any more, including us. How to put it together, in what format, how long. We're in the dark as much as anyone I think."

Radiohead is currently rehearsing for festival appearances including Leeds and Reading Festivals (Aug. 29 and 30) in the U.K.

Last week it issued the digital track "Harry Patch (In Memory Of)," with proceeds going to the British Legion, the U.K. charity that supports the armed forces and its veterans. The Reece bass is a classic 'dirty bass' sound. From the more subtle terrorist Reece to the hardcore alien girl Reece they all have one thing in common. The saw tooth wave.

So to start off with, get a multi oscillator synthesizer (ideally 3 or 4 oscillators) like the albino, logic's ES2, Massive etc. Set all oscillators to the saw tooth. There are many harmonic frequencies in the saw tooth, The normal waves ramps upward and then falls. There are also sawtooth waves where the wave ramps down and then rises sharply. Commonly known as a reverse sawtooth. As signals, the two variations of the sawtooth sound the same until paired together.

Once you have got your multi oscillator synth running with 3 oscillators, the next step in the process is to detune one or 2 of the oscillators by around +/- 25cents, this is essential for drum and bass and dubstep. It gives the Reece a very deep edgy sound, rather than just a flat buzzing sound.

After setting up your initial saw tooth with De-turning, (this is essentially the basis of the Reece) - You can go ahead and start producing and shaping the noise for your type of music, dubstep or drum and bass. Here are some of the main parameters you can use:

Filter Envelopes:
A nice way to get a movement on the Reece bass is to add envelope to the filter section, Reece bass sounds are extremely responsive to filters and using a high pass you can get a very nice sounding lead, or use a low pass and get a very fat bass. try using about 20% of filter attack for dubstep and 30% for drum and bass.

Phaser:
Because of the harmonic phases all ready occurring due to the multiple oscillation, adding a phase plug in can and does work very well. It's better to use a sparse amount of phase to subtly enhance the sound rather than extreme amounts

Flange:
The flange process can add a nice bit of subtle metallic rasp to the sound, this is very pleasing effect for that big warehouse dubstep sound.

Echo:
The delay effect can make a Reece sound wicked! Try using a delay just before the drop.

Reverb:
Again subtle uses of reverb can act very aggressively on your noise, Guitar amp reverbs tend to work well with Reece bass and also come packed with distortion for extra bite.

Other processes that add madness to your Reece include: Distortion, compression, LFO and auto filters work especially well with dubstep.

In summary, it is best to process your Reece sound a lot for dubstep and drum and bass programming. It is a very well used sound, so to make it stand out you will have to be creative with your sound programming skills - Filters act in the biggest way and reverb is essential!

By: Oliver Brown

Aerosmith Cancels Summer Tour

Aerosmith has canceled the remainder of its summer tour.

In a statement issued late Thursday, the band's publicist MSO said "it is with great regret" that the band is canceling the rest of its tour because of injuries that frontman Steven Tyler suffered when he fell off the stage during an Aug. 5 performance in South Dakota.

Tyler broke his left shoulder and needed 20 stitches in his head.

The statement said doctors have advised Tyler to take the time to properly recuperate from his injuries.

"Words can't express the sadness I feel for having to cancel this tour," guitarist Joe Perry said in the statement.

Perry said he wanted to thank the band's loyal fans for sticking by them, adding that the band hopes "we can get the Aerosmith machine up and running again as soon as possible."

The statement said ticket refunds for the remaining tour dates will be available at the place of purchase.

Earlier Thursday, Tyler released a lengthy statement thanking the Sturgis, S.D., police department and others who helped him after the fall. The 61-year-old also thanked the band's crew, the helicopter that evacuated him "for getting me outta there before I bled to death" and the doctors and nurses who treated him.

Tyler said thunderstorms delayed the band's set by an hour, then fuses blew and the audio systems failed shortly after the concert began.

"Well, I wasn't gonna go hide under the big top and play 'ROCK STAR' and wait for everything to be fixed," Tyler said. "I wanted to go out to the crowd to continue the show."

He said he was doing "the Tyler shuffle" when he slipped and fell off the edge of the stage.

"I just want to say that I' m plain grateful that I didn't break my neck," he said. There's also the question of how many chords are really necessary. Some people have actually bought their first guitar, downloaded some tabs and learnt to play them. So for people who have been able to learn guitar without chords, the question is whether they can just keep going in this way.

If you are going to be a guitar player with some understanding and mastery of not only your guitar, but also of music, you are going to have to learn some chords. The good news is that of the blinding number of chords you will find in a chord dictionary or jazz guitar tutor, there is only a handful that are really necessary to learn today's music.

You will need to learn the chords A B C D E F and G - major and minor. You can start with the open chords which means you will be playing within the first three frets on the guitar, and stay with these as you learn how seventh and ninth chords enhance your playing. After that, you can learn the basic barre chord shapes and the way they can make your playing sound more interesting.

As you learn new chords, you will be putting them to use in songs that you like. Otherwise you are going to get bored learning and practicing chord fingerings alone. The open chords are all pretty easy once you get the knack of pressing down on the strings without muffling the adjacent strings.

Bear in mind that as you get a collection of chords to learn guitar you totally ignore any impulse you might have to play fast. Speed comes by itself the more you practice. You main concerns at the moment are precision and relaxation. It will seem like impossibly slow work, but that's the way you need to do it.

If you want to speed up the job of trying to learn chords for guitar, it is best to allocate half an hour a day to practice. At least. Remember that you are not only learning the chord fingerings but also practicing changing from one chord to another.

As you learn your chords, you will gradually be able to change chords while you keep in time with the music. Again, you will be playing slowly at first as you become more convinced that you DO need chords to learn guitar, your confidence and speed will both grow.

By: Ricky A full maintaince job can lead to the restoration of the gear. The first step in music gear repair lies in identifying the area of discrepancy. If you are not aware of the area you can land up in trouble by probably spoiling the gear.

Music gear is sensitive to even slight changes in the weather. It is always advisable to keep the gear in a protective environment. When not in use try to keep it wrapped inside a box with moisture absorbents. If the humidity or the moisture content in the air affects the gear, the sound quality may start distorting or sometimes even disturbing the entire signal flow.

Various gears are found faulty due to various reasons. Thus, it is necessary to know the reason for the fault. While repairing keep a note of the power related issue. Repairs and upgrades to the power supply and attention to power and ground distribution can reduce power-related noise without significantly altering desirable sonic characteristics.

For music gear like keyboards and synthesizers, the musician can face problems like low-output after sometime or power failure. But with an instrument like a guitar whether acoustic or electric repairing can really be a long task. However, the trick lies in identifying the area that needs repair.

If you are dealing with a guitar you can start with the guitar neck. That is because the guitar neck over time will warp because of the constant string tension. If your guitar has become harder to fret it may be a sign the neck needs adjustment. To check for warping remove the guitar strings from the bridge, not the tuning keys, this way you can put them back on without restringing. To be sure take a yardstick and lay it edgewise across the neck. It should lie evenly across the frets. If not, then the neck needs adjustment. To adjust your guitar neck you need to tighten the truss rod by turning the nut clockwise. However, do not over tighten it as you can break the neck. After all, we are trying to avoid costly repairs not create them.

Secondly, you will often hear a "buzz" in your guitar caused by loose frets. To check for loose frets press the ends of each fret with the tip of your finger to check for movement. To repair loose frets, first determine which end is loose. Place your guitar on its side and hold down the loose fret. Use one drop of super glue or similar product and let it run down between the fret and the fingerboard holding the fret down while it dries. Again, this is not a hard procedure but if you are careless you will cause more damage than what you had to begin with. Be very careful while performing this adjustment. If you raise the string height too much you may change the intonation of your gear. If the string is to low it will cause a fret buzz.

By: Victor Epand

Sound Effects For Your Use In Music Production

To Produce or create a different range of sound effects for use with your music prodiction I will begin by explaining the different types of controls that are in most commonly used in filters and EQ effects

Cutoff frequency/Cutoff point:
The designated frequency of a filter after which the sound is not allowed to pass. In a high-pass filter, a high cutoff frequency will be excessively trebly and bright, as no low frequencies will be present. In a low-pass filter, a low cutoff frequency may be too muted and dark, as no high frequencies or overtones will be present

Attenuation

This will reduce or silence the desired frequency

Bandwidth/Q/Resonance/Emphasis/Peak

Bandwidth/Q/Resonance/Emphasis/Peak. The filter effects the range of frequencies on the desired side of the cutoff point and measured in Hertz, so it relates to frequency. Although if it was measured in octaves It would be more efficient

The usage of the terms 'bandwidth' and 'Q' are most commonly used to relate to recording purposes. 'Bandwidth' is the most useful, because it tells you about the overall sound control. Q is short for 'Quality' or, 'figure of Quality'

Resonance increases the frequencies around the cutoff point and is regularly used in synthesis. It is also used to put the filter into self-oscillation, which is not usually done with a recording.

To control the sound effect, you need to learn about the different EQ types. Here are the EQ types you will encounter.

The 5 different EQ types are:

Fixed EQ. This is usually a single control Like Bass or Treble. Mixers Could have Low (bass) and High (treble) EQ controls. The cutoff frequency here is fixed and you control the amount of cut or boost.

Graphic EQ. The frequency ranges are fixed divided into a series of bands to make cut and boost individually. Each row of sliders control a specific frequency band. They are common on hi fi systems. It also stands alone studio devices and can be found in software. Nevertheless, you can technically divide the spectrum into any number of bands, typical divisions on hardware units are 15 and 31 covering two-thirds and one-third of an octave ranges respectively.

Parametric EQ. With parametric EQ you change the frequency of the bands. It has typically three or four bands, each with three controls - cutoff frequency, bandwidth and level, allowing you to use specific frequencies within a very tight range.

Paragraphic EQ. This is a kind of super-parametic EQ. It blurs the line between graphic and parametric. It offers several bands like a graphic, but with user-definable frequency bands like a parametric; However, as this can become quite complex, they also tend to have highly-graphic interfaces to watch exactly what frequencies are being affected.

Sweeping/Semi-parametric EQ. This is the middle between a fixed EQ and a full parametric EQ - while the bandwidth is fixed, you can control the centre frequency (the cutoff point). It's common to many mixers. Normally, you can find fixed Low and High EQ with a sweepable mid range control.

By: Mr3m4n

Music Mixer Software - You Get What You Pay For

You know we dwell in exciting times when anyone with a spot of talent can create, develop and pass out their own music and make it large without having to win a record deal. By merely downloading and studying some software and samples you can go from bedroom DJ to hearing your own tracks being played in nightclubs and getting people coming up to you asking "Hey is this your track?!"

Thus the question is how and where do you begin?
There are so many choices ranking from free to very expensive, evidently free is good but what's the downside? That high-priced big name piece of software looks very good but do you know what most of those wonderful characteristics are and more importantly do you require them?

One thing you can count on is that whether you spend zero or $500 you will be committing some time and effort into picking up music mixer software so how much is your time and elbow grease worth?

There are pros and cons of free and high-ticket software bundles. You need to establish your priorities and special necessities before investing any of your time regardless of money. Ask yourself the following questions:

How easy is it to learn, does it have samples you can use?

Are they royalty clear so you can create tracks that you can sell for money?

Are you equipped to read a 400 page ebook manual before getting started?

Before investing any of your time and endeavour you need your own individual rating system. That is a system of rules that lines up your demands and priorities with what the different selections have to offer.

A good method to achieve this is to draw a table of characteristics and put each option in. That way you can line them up and distinguish each characteristic out of 10.

Then you can make an educated decision about which choice is most suitable for you and will get your music out there being downloaded by your fans and perhaps even bringing you some nice cash as well. It all begins with making the best decision at the start. And that starts with a decent system to properly appraise your choices.

By: PeterWebber

Alice In Chains Reunion 'Gives Way' To New Album, Tour

<img style="float:right; margin:0 0 10px 10px;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 214px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_bW3C39IIMfM/Sk4i5lYbLXI/AAAAAAAAALM/DCcuTeCtFAI/s320/695844_356x237.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5354255379672542578" />
Armed with its first album in nearly 14 years, Alice in Chains singer-guitarist Jerry Cantrell and drummer Sean Kinney tell Billboard.com the band's new album "Black Gives Way To Blue," which is due out September 29 on Virgin/EMI, doesn't stray too far from the Seattle band's influential catalog.

"It's nice to sound like yourself," laughs Kinney. "It's not really that hard, actually. I know people are blown away that we really sound like ourselves, and I understand the apprehension, but it's not really that big a stretch to sound the way that you sound."

Adds Cantrell, "We were just hoping to make the best record we possibly could and we did that. Sean and I talk a lot about when you do a record you've been working on it a long time and you're pretty sick of it by the time somebody else hears it. You're already thinking of the next thing. And we're still listening to this. It's still like really exciting to listen to and that's really good."

The group has booked a brief European run in August with a month-long Stateside tour in September. Cantrell hints more legs are due to follow.

"We're not going to stop touring when the record comes out," Cantrell laughs. "That would be like an old pattern we're trying not to do again."

While the album's lead single hasn't been announced, new track "A Looking in View" is currently streaming on aliceinchains.com. Other new songs include "Your Decision" and "Check My Brain." Kinney says the vibe of the 11-track album, which is its first effort with new singer-guitarist William DuVall, continues in the Alice in Chains tradition of tackling different styles and sounds, from the hard rock nature of "Dirt" to the acoustic-minded "Jar of Flies."

As far as the recording of a new album, the band's first since its 1995 self-titled effort and the 2002 death of original singer Layne Staley due to a heroin/cocaine overdose, nothing was for certain when the band members reunited in 2006.

"It's been a really slow process," Kinney says. "As long as it felt genuine and it came from the right place, and we all were cool with it, then we'd take another little step. Two years ago we really weren't talking about doing a record. We were on tour and we've been playing and jelling together and Will (DuVall) was getting incorporated into how things are going down. But we always had a jam space backstage where riffs and stuff started happening."

Finally, both Alice in Chains members said the spirit of Staley remains with the band. In fact, without going into specifics, there apparently is material on "Black Gives Way To Blue" that deals with their former singer.

"He's always a part of my everyday life," Kinney says. "There's not a day that goes by that I don't think of him. And there's a lot to address, with all of that stuff coming to the forefront. A lot has happened since 1995, a lot has happened in our lives and we've never talked about it or discussed it publicly. So some of that is what's addressed here. That's the way we operate, it's about what really happened in life. We're not really the fast cars and chicks songs. It's basically what's happened in life, but a lot has happened since the last record. And it's on this record."

source:billboard.com

Slayer Ready For 'World Painted Blood'

<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 214px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_bW3C39IIMfM/Sk4hM7HcNpI/AAAAAAAAALE/FFRyz9smuXQ/s320/Slayer.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5354253512901146258" />
Headbanging icons Slayer have slotted a "late summer" release for their ninth album, "World Painted Blood," following the quartet's co-headlining slot on this year's Rockstar Energy Mayhem Festival. It follows 2006's "Christ Illusion," which itself came five years after its predecessor, "God Hates Us All."

"I figured, and I'm sure the other guys figured, that if there was another five-year gap this would probably be our last record," guitarist Kerry King tells Billboard.com. "If we're going in five-year gaps, that means two records in 10 years. I think we all didn't want to wait that long. Not that we didn't have ideas -- we toured, put out DVDs and box sets and had a lot of other stuff going on."

Slayer recorded "World Painted Blood" in Los Angeles with producer Greg Fidelman (Metallica, Slipknot, the (International) Noise Conspiracy), who was recommended to the band by executive producer Rick Rubin. An October 2008 session yielded the punk-flavored "Psychopathy Red," which was released as a limited-edition red vinyl 7-inch in April for Record Store Day, then Slayer returned to the studio from January to March. The group finished 13 tracks -- six by King, seven by fellow guitarist Jeff Hanneman -- 11 of which will appear on the album.

"I like when Jeff writes as much as he did for this record," says King. "When you have one guy doing most of the writing you only get one perspective. A lot of Jeff's stuff has a very punky vibe this time; the stuff I write sounds thrashy but with a hint of punk, and when Jeff writes the stuff is more punk with a hint of thrash. It works together well."

"World Painted Blood" also marked the first time Slayer created material in the studio rather than coming in with songs fully prepared -- a process that made King skeptical at first.

"I was kind of thinking, 'Man, this could be the first record in a long time that's got a little bit of filler,' " he acknowledges. "But I think every song came out great. I was concerned some would sound similar, and every one is completely different. It's cool how it worked out." Song titles include "Beauty Through Order," "Unit 731," "Playing with Dolls," "Public Display of Dismemberment," "Americon" and the title track.

King expects that Slayer will only play the already widely disseminated "Psychopathy Red" during its Mayhem Tour sets when the tour starts on July 10. King says some Australian dates are "on the bubble," as well as shows in Europe and Japan before the group returns to North America in early 2010.

Source:billboard.com

Guitar Care Is The Most Important Parts Of Being A Guitarist!

We believe that guitar care is one of the most important parts of being a guitarist! With some simple steps, you can ensure that your guitar looks, feels and sounds good for years to come. First, find a proper way of storing it – don’t just leave your guitar lying around, it can tip over and fall! Invest in a floor stand or a guitar case – this will do your guitar good in the long run. Clean your guitar often – wipe the neck after every use with a soft cloth, to prevent accumulation of sweat and oils from your hand, and give the fretboard a nice polish every time you change strings. We think a time period of about 1-3 months for changing your guitar strings is fine – when you feel your strings wearing out or sounding dull is a good time to change them. Ensure that your guitar doesn’t have to undergo extremes of temperature – that could really damage the instrument! We also suggest that you take it to your local guitar technician about once in a year, just to get it looked at. Finally, the best way to take care of your guitar is to play it! By using it regularly you’ll be more aware of what’s going on, and therefore be better able to care for it. These simple tips can help you and your guitar in the long run. Good luck!

Guitar lesson 1: Caring for your guitar
Bought a new guitar but don’t know how to maintain it? Worry not! We’ve got help for you. As a guitarist, guitar care is one of the first few things you should learn. Here are some things you should take into account while caring for your guitar:

• Don’t keep it lying around. This seems so obvious, right? But you won’t believe the huge number of avoidable accidents that have happened to guitars simply from bad ideas like being leant against the wall. Buy some form of storage for your guitar – the most common ones being floor stands and cases. Invest in one of these, and you won’t regret it.

• Cleaning. This is one of the most important parts of guitar care. The types of cleaning you should do are:

o Neck. Wipe along the neck of your guitar with a dry, soft cloth after every use to protect your fretboard – the sweat and oils from your hands can accumulate quickly and damage it.

o Fretboard. Each time you change the strings (see next tip), give your fretboard a nice clean. The best way to clean your fretboard is to give it a polish every now and then. Remember, it’s hard to clean fretboards when they do have strings on, so the time when you change strings is perfect to get all the accumulated dust off.

• Changing strings. When you notice your strings are getting slightly worn out or sounding dull, it’s a good time to change your strings. Lots of people are scared about this step, but there’s no reason to be so! Changing your guitar strings periodically (about 1-3 months) can really help the sound of your guitar.

• Temperature. Make sure you protect your guitar from extremes in temperature. Remember, a guitar is mostly wood, so it will be sensitive to changes in temperature.

• Get it looked at. Once in a while, at least. Even if you have been taking regular and good care of it, there will be some parts that might need tweaking and readjustment! About once a year, take it to your Jazz Guitar Lesson– that should do fine.

• Play it! There’s no better way to keep your guitar in tip-top condition than this! Playing regularly is the perfect way for you to ensure that you take notice of your guitar. Forgetting all about your guitar means that it’ll sit in a corner, gather dust, and soon become rusty and unusable – you don’t want that, now!

Just follow these tips and you’ll be sure to have a great-sounding guitar for years. Happy playin’!

By: Vishal Dwivedi

Making A Psytrance Lead In V-station

Section 1: Programming the V-Station (sawtooth) - Skip to the end of the tutorial to hear an example of the finished sound!
1.) Open V-Station on the first preset setting "bass1"
2.) Turn Off the Effects
3.) Turn OSC1 mixer gain to full and the rest completely down.
4.) In the filter section Put Freq to full, and res down
5.) In the Amp Env section move dec & sustain to full and release down
6.) Click the "extra" tab at the top right
7.) In the envolope section put prog level to the maximum
8.) In the Oscillators section put pre-glide to full
9.) in the Portamento section put the time up to about two thirds

Section 2: Applying FilterVST (band pass filter)
1.) Open Filter Vst as an insert on the v-station synth
2.) In the master section find tempo source and select the midi button
3.) In section 1 change the lowpass filter to a band pass filter
4.) Move the frequence up to about 1.0kHz and the Q to about 5%
5.) In the source section click on the 1 button
6.) Move the amount up to about two thirds
7.) In the FG 1 section click the sync to master button amd select a dotted crotchet in the beats section
8.) Go back to the source section and click on the 2 button
9.) In the dest section which currently states FI frequency, change this to F1 Pan and move the amount upto about two thirds
10.) Go to FG 2 and select the sync to master button and leave it on the crotchet
11.) Click on the on button for section 2
12.) In section 2 change the lowpass filter to a High pass filter
13.) Turn the Q down and the freq to 333hz
14.) in the filter routing section select button 6

Section 3: applying CamelCrusher (distortion)
1.) Place Camel Crusher as an insert on the V-Station after the FilterVST and leave on its factory setting. You can download Camel Crusher free from Camel Audio.

Section 4: Applying Delay
1.) Place a delay such as Bionic Delay as an insert on the V-Station after the FilterVST. You can download Bionic Delay free here. A good substitute would be Expert Sleepers Ping Pong.
2.) Choose "ping pong 1/4"

Bionic Delay
Section 5: Suggestions for writing the riff...
1.) As the lead is more of a tonal effect than a melodic tool find a key which sounds good with the track this may not necessarily be the key of the bass (as the portamento is up on the V-Station tone of the notes played has changed)
2.) I find that choppy parts sound great with this lead (reference riff example picture) however this is just one example, all parameters on the filter vst such as the freq position or lfo speeds (FG1/FG2) can be changed to suit the style your after!
3.) Different types of distortion will also change the character for example the harder the distortion the more 'acidy' it sounds and the less you apply the 'squelchier' it'll sound!

By: Mark Spacey

What Is 100% Drm Free Music?

DRM, or digital rights management was put into place by manufacturers and owners of copyrighted material in order to restrict the use of duplicating material, selling, or freely distributing it to masses of people. 100% DRM free simply means that a company is offering popular content, such as music, which can be accessed and downloaded through their website, usually for a fee, which contains no digital rights management. This is pretty convenient since you are able to browse through a list of songs that you desire to have without having to purchase an entire CD.

There are many who argue against the use of 100% DRM free websites. These advocates consider it to be harmful to the media industry and have often posed the argument that many copyright holders lose money through websites which offer this type of download service. Several music vendors have set up systems offering 100% DRM free music downloads which proves that music can be distributed in this manner without being abused. You simply sign up for an account and purchase either individual songs or entire albums.

What are the benefits of downloading DRM free music?

The benefits of downloading music that is free of digital rights management is the fact that you can download any MP3 song or album that you like and burn it to a CD for your listening pleasure. By charging you a fee per downloaded song or album, companies are able to keep themselves from being compromised by providing illegally distributed copyrighted material. For example, you enjoy a song by a particular artist, without the availability of DRM free music, you would have to go to the store and purchase the entire album in order to obtain the song that you like. Once you get the album home, you might find that you do not like any other song on the album. This means that you wasted your money all for the sake of one song.

Where can you get DRM free music?

DRM free music is offered by several online music providers like, BigPond music downloads , which allow you to hear clips of songs so you can decide whether you want to download them individually or the entire album all in one. If you choose to download mp3 songs individually, you can then create your own CD with the songs that you enjoy most. The great thing about this is, you no longer have to pay for an entire album to access the songs that you love the most.

Keep in mind, when burning music to a CD, you should never distribute copies of music, even if you bought and paid for it, illegally to others. Instead, encourage friends and family to sign up for their own DRM free music account so that they can enjoy the benefits of 100% DRM free music as well.

By: Chelsi Woolz

Anvil Studio 2008.09.04

<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 289px; height: 320px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_bW3C39IIMfM/Sjtu-F9A1gI/AAAAAAAAAK8/QSVpJP_DXv8/s320/compose.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5348990995461625346" />
DOWNLOAD

Anvil Studio is a multi-track program for recording, composing, editing, and mixing of music using MIDI, digital audio, and sampled percussions.

The standard version lets you record an unlimited number of MIDI tracks and one Audio track. "It's super conceptual and highbrow in many ways, very artistic, very Stanley Kubrick," he says. "But it's not a rock opera. It's a very modern version of what could happen when you blend the film industry and the music industry together in a very, very arty, kind of cool way with professionals involved all along the path."

DeLonge says the "Love" movie -- which began life as a documentary about Angels & Airwaves recording its 2006 debut album, "We Don't Need to Whisper," and expanded from there -- "blurs the line between full-fledged live action and documentary with these epic kind of...meditative sequences where the sound design and the music and the picture all bend together to create a sonic experience as much as a visual one." The script, meanwhile, "tells a story of human life and destiny but at the same time really makes usual moments of life extraordinary. It's a circular narrative in many ways, where it kind of sums up the human race in a time capsule."

The music of "Love," DeLonge says, will have a prog-rock kind of flavor. "It's like blending Radiohead and U2 together with these kind of Pink Floyd movements," he explains. "Things happen unpredictably and take you to these epic soundscapes. It's very much in the spirit of Angels & Airwaves, but it sounds way, way more thought-out and way more ambitious."

DeLonge says the group is still figuring out mechanisms for delivering the film and album and are also planning a tour to support the project. All of this, of course, is going on while he rehearses for the blink-182 tour, which begins July 23 in Las Vegas.

"It's gonna be a really busy time -- It's fucking crazy, actually. I don't know what I'm doing," DeLonge says with a laugh. But guitarist Joe Perry also told Reuters during the weekend that the group plans to switch in a couple of weeks and play 1976's "Rocks" in its entirety. He did not say whether the group would stay with "Rocks" or alternate the albums in their set for the duration of the tour -- or even work in another of the band's albums in its entirety.

Perry also said that frontman Steven Tyler found it too difficult to sing "You See Me Crying" right now but is working on it and may add the song in future shows.

Aerosmith comes home on Tuesday to play at the Comcast Center in suburban Boston, when ZZ Top will jump on the bill for the remainder of the trek, which wraps up Sept. 16 in Auburn Hills, Mich.

Perry also predicted an early July return for guitarist Brad Whitford, who sidelined after surgery to relieve internal bleeding after hitting his head while getting out of his Ferrari earlier this month. Perry said the bleeding "built up pressure and gave (Whitford) this whoopin' headache. He's not prone to getting migraines, so knew something was wrong. He went right in, they did what they had to do, and now he's getting better."

Whitford currently plans to return for the July 7 show in Raleigh, N.C. Bobby Schneck, who's worked with Green Day and Weezer, is currently filling in.

As previously reported, when Aerosmith hits the road this summer, fans in Rhode Island and New Hampshire will have a new way to win backstage passes, front-row seats and an extra few million dollars to spend on concessions. The group and singer Steven Tyler's publisher, Primary Wave Music, struck a deal with the gaming technology company GTECH to launch a band-branded series of lottery games based on "Dream On" and other songs from Aerosmith's catalog.

Source : Billboard.com

What Kind Of Computer Recording Studio Equipment Do I Need To Make Professional Sounding Recordings

Recording on your home computer has never been easier to do than it is today. With the speed of the modern day computer you can do some pretty neat things with your recordings. Modern technology will take you a long way toward success but you still need to understand what is going on if you want to have a great recording. It does not take all that much computer recording studio equipment to have a nice little setup.

To record on your computer you will need a few essential items. You must start out with a powerful computer that has a pretty decent soundcard. The next step is to go shopping for the software you need to actually get the sound inside your computer. You will find a decent set of headphones handy to have around and the most important thing you need is a good microphone. This article will take a look at these items and how they relate to home recording on a computer.

You cannot do much computer recording without a computer. Almost any modern day system will get the job done. The faster CPU and the more memory you have the better. Many people like to build a special computer just for recording purposes. This may be overkill if you only want to record one or two tracks at a time. Next you need to add a good soundcard or audio interface to your system.

There are many choices you can make when picking out a soundcard or external audio interface. You do not have to spend a lot of money to get a decent sound but usually the more expensive brands have some features that you may need. It is wise to search the Internet and forums to see what people are saying about the different soundcards before spending your hard earned money.

You will need to get some recording software to add to your computer recording studio equipment. There are many brands to choose from the free Audacity to programs costing a lot of money. If your recording needs are simple you can probably get by with one of the cheaper packages. On the other hand if you want to record a band you will probably need to spend a few more bucks on one of the more expensive software programs.

Add a microphone to this must have equipment list and you will almost be done. Get the best mike you can afford as the quality of this piece of equipment has much to do with the final sound of your project.

The last thing you will need to complete a basic set up is a set of headphones so you can hear what is being recording. Get a decent set but you can get by ok with a simple pair of headphones.

As you can see you do not have to spend a lot of money on computer recording studio equipment to get started recording on your home computer. Take your time and choose your equipment carefully and you will not have to go this again in 6 months when you have figured out that the cheap stuff you bought just is not getting the job done.

By: Douglas Taylor

Dvd Ripping And Maca Must For Music Lovers

The Mac DVD Ripper is a free DVD extractor that can extract commercial DVD movies to the hard drive of the personal computer. Progressive rock is very hard to define in one conclusive way and we have progressive rock bands to prove that. Some of the most important bands of the 70s that defined this rock form did not have the same sound.

Psychedelic music is believed to be the starting point of progressive rock. Some people also believe that bands like The Beatles contributed to the progressive rock movement. However, the two progressive rock bands that most people see as being the first of this new- found genre were King Crimson and Yes. These progressive rock bands appeared at the end of the 1960s and although the first band was attributed to hard progressive rock sub- genre and the second to symphonic rock, they were both catalogued as progressive rock bands, as their sound was unique and more sophisticated. Genesis is yet another rock band that aspired to progressive rock. Their third progressive rock album set things straight for this band. They were a symphonic rock band and thus a progressive rock band.

Great Britain was the first country that started the progressive rock movement, but Italy was not far behind either. Banco Del Mutuo Soccorco and Premiata Forneria Marconi were progressive rock bands that led the way for all rock bands all over Europe to progress and define this rock genre. As far as the progressive rock movement is concerned, these two European countries were the ones that opened all doors and invited all rock bands to evolve and give the world great progressive rock albums. However, Great Britain is still the top promoter of progressive rock bands, with Caravan, another progressive rock band from this country, being the one that defined the third sub- genre of progressive rock: Canterbury. So, at the end of the 1960s, progressive rock bands established three sub- genres: hard prog, symphonic and Canterbury.

The 1970s represented the crowning of progressive rock as a genre and some of the greatest progressive rock albums were released in this decade. Jethro Tull’s “Thick as a brick” or Rush’s “2112” are only two of the most appreciated progressive rock albums released in the 70s. Moreover, this decade brought another ten sub- genres of progressive rock to life, and many progressive rock bands came forth in this period. As if progressive rock was not complicated enough, art folk, classical prog, folk prog, ambient, Rio, pomp prog, jazz fusion, electronic, Zeuhl and krautrock were listed as sub- genres of the 60s rock genre.

In the next two decades, progressive rock did not progress as much as it had up to that moment. In the 80s, it was dethroned by the punk movement and progressive rock bands chose to give birth to another sub- genre: neo progressive. There were few progressive rock albums released in the 80s, some of the most prolific ones being Rush’s “Moving Pictures” or Fate’s Warning’s “No Exit”. Progressive metal rock was also listed as a sub- genre in this period. The 1990s were dominated by the development of metal prog, through Dream Theatre. This decade is mainly characterized by the revival of the progressive scene of the seventies.

By: Groshan Fabiola

Rock Music Fiction: Recommended Short Stories And Novels

Looking for something different to read? Tired of the same old chick-lit, thrillers, romances, and teen vampire books? If you’re like most people you listen to rock music—on the radio, on CDs, and at concerts. Believe it or not, there is a growing genre of fiction devoted to rock music and rock musicians.

They aren’t all just about sex, drugs, and rock ‘n roll (although a generous sprinkling of these ingredients doesn’t hurt!). Many rock music novels strive to capture something about the creative process, the everyday life of a musician, or the impact that rock music has on listeners. Here are a few choice examples of works of fiction that are based in the punk, pop, heavy metal, or rock genre.

"The Best in Rock Fiction" (June Sawyers and Anthony DeCurtis, editors. Hal Leonard, 2004). This engrossing collection features short stories including T. C. Boyle's "All Shook Up" and Tom Piazza's "Burn Me Up," plus more than a dozen excerpts from published novels. Authors include Nick Hornby, William Gibson, Sherman Alexie (with an excerpt from Reservation Blues), Don DeLillo, Madison Smartt Bell, Jeffrey Eugenides, Rick Moody, and Scott Spencer. In "Ground Beneath Her Feet," Salman Rushdie explores the Orpheus and Eurydice myth in a rock ‘n roll context.

"Carved in Rock: Short Stories by Musicians" (Greg Kihn, editor. Thunder’s Mouth Press, 2003). A collection of short stories written by some of the biggest names in rock including Joan Jett, Kinky Freidman, Jim Carroll, Richard Hell, Ray Davies, Graham Parker, Eric Burden, Pete Townshend, John Entwistle, Exene Cervenka, and Wayne Kramer. Given the success that many of these legends have as songwriters, it’s no surprise that these engaging and varied tales open new doors of literary experience.

"Pistonhead" (Thomas A. Hauck. Something.hot Communications, 2009). My own entry into the rock fiction arena. "Pistonhead" reveals the daily life of Charlie Sinclair, a struggling Boston musician who works in a factory by day and plays guitar for his band Pistonhead at night. He’s stressed-out, confused, oversexed, underfed, has an apartment full of mice, and can’t get rid of his overbearing ex-girlfriend who tries to make booty calls. When his life can’t get much more depressing, Jack, his best friend and the band’s lead singer, dies of a drug overdose, and it looks like Charlie’s dreams of a career in music are over. They aren't--he just has to change his idea of success.

"High Fidelity" (Nick Hornby. Riverhead, 1995). Although the protagonist is the owner of a record store (remember record stores?), this classic novel is the most successful of the rock music genre. We meet Rob Fleming, owner of a vintage record store in London, whose girlfriend, Laura, leaves him for another man. Rob realizes that he lives not for sexual conquest but for the monogamy that he, until now, dismissed as hopelessly square. The 2000 movie version starred John Cusack and Danish actress Iben Hjejle, and was nominated for a Golden Globe.

"Noise: Fiction Inspired by Sonic Youth" (Peter Wild, editor. Harper Perennial, 2009). A collection of stories inspired, as the title says, by the music of punk rock legends Sonic Youth. The all-star contributors include Hiag Akmakjian, Christopher Coake, Katherine Dunn, Mary Gaitskill, Rebecca Godfrey, Laird Hunt, Shelley Jackson, J. Robert Lennon, Samuel Ligon, Emily Maguire, Tom McCarthy, Scott Mebus, Eileen Myles, Catherine O'Flynn, Emily Carter Roiphe, Kevin Sampsell, Steven Sherrill, Matt Thorne, Rachel Trezise, Jess Walter, and Peter Wild.

By: Thomas A. With a few helpful tips, you will be able to sell your drum set quickly and receive payment in the amount or close to the amount of the sale price. To get started, answer these questions; does my drum set have sentimental value? Am I in a hurry to sell it? Am I willing to settle for less than the asking price? These few questions will give you some idea to figure out a reasonable asking price. Let us also look into other factors to take into consideration.

Compare with other drum sets

Check to see what would be a fair value by comparing to other used drum sets. Do your research online, check ads from your local music store bulletin board or newspaper. Observe the quality of your drum set in relation to the same set being sold elsewhere. Is the condition of your drum kit in excellent, good, fair or poor condition? Is your asking price in line with other prices?

Drum condition

What state of condition are your drums and accessories? Are they in excellent condition, maybe needing a slight dusting? Do they require a deeper cleaning of mild soap and water? Is there rust on any chrome pieces of the drums, cymbal stands or other hardware? Any missing parts such as lugs, washers, and rubber footings? Are the drumheads cracked or worn? Any cracks on the cymbals? Are the cymbals brilliant or dull in the shine? Do hihat and kick pedals need attention?

Increase your sale price

Get the best price from your set by performing minor repairs to improve looks and performance. Clean the drum shells with a mild soapy solution if the drums are real dirty and then wipe with a dry clean cloth. Use a chrome cleaner for mild rust on chrome parts. If available, replace missing parts usually found at a music or hardware store. Replace cracked or worn drumheads. Use a cymbal cleaner to clean cymbals. For kick pedals, oil a chain driven pedal and replace a belt driven pedal if needed. The bottom line, you will want your drum set to look and perform the best it can.

Where to sell

You might want to use all of the options to sell the set such as utilizing the internet, newspaper, bulletin boards and word of mouth. Of course, use whatever means that you will be comfortable with. Follow all of these great tips to effectively make your sell.

By: Thaddeus W Johnson

10 Tips To Help Improve Your Singing Voice

Need a little help to improve your singing voice? Here are 10 tips to help you reach your potential!

1. Breath from the diaphragm, not the lungs. You need to really control the air that you're expelling when you sing, and breathing from the diaphragm gives you more air to work with. To do this, breathe so that your stomach goes out rather than your chest when you inhale. When you practice, try to focus on using the same amount of air for low notes and high notes. This will help erase the break between your registers and give you more steady tone.

2. Run through scales-a lot. If this was guitar, it wouldn't be different, and the human voice is a lot less accurate than a guitar. You need to get your sense of pitch down, and you need to train your voice to reach higher and higher if you want to really hit all the notes in your range.

3. Don't strain your voice. Practice is a good thing, but don't try to sing too high or you might damage your vocal cords. Go slow and steady and you'll sing well in no time. Keep your practice time to an hour or so a day, then move up if you feel like it. If you ever feel like your voice is straining, or if you feel soreness or pain, stop right away.

4. Listen to criticism. Singing well takes a long time, and in the meantime you're going to hear people say a lot of bad things about you. If you notice a trend, recognize that people are probably making a good judgment and try to work on the problem aspect of your voice. Don't let anyone get you down who really has nothing to say other than, "you suck," though. You don't see them trying to do this, and they have no idea what they're talking about.

5. Make recordings of yourself. This is the only way to hear your problems, because you can separate yourself from your voice and listen to what other people hear. You may not like this at first, but keep at it; you'll improve vastly, and you'll start to notice stuff you like about your voice and really expand on those things.

6. Talk to established singers. Most of them will be happy to give you some tips and exercises that helped them out, and any time you need to ask for directions, the best idea is to ask the person that's already at your destination.

7. Eat and drink well. Don't do anything that'll dry out your voice and stop you from singing well. Caffeine is bad, as is anything that causes mucous buildup like dairy products (milk in particular is a very bad choice). Don't smoke or drink too much; this can really make you sing poorly. One famous case of booze and cigarettes ruining a classic voice is Harry Nilsson, who shred his vocal cords while working on his "Pussycats" album with John Lennon and ended up carrying a bucket with him to spit blood into during the recording session. His fantastic voice eventually improved and sounded great, but he never could sing quite as well again; his highest register was permanently damaged.

8. Sing for the style. If you're singing country, listen to country singers; if you're singing rock, listen to rock singers. Notice things that are the same in each style and emulate those. Be careful, however, to keep your voice unique, and not to simply copy another singer's voice. Make your personality come out in your music.

9. Experiment with different sounds. Certain noises, like a really nasal note, can help you expand your range if you practice with them. Ask singers for their suggestions, and take them up on it.

10. Finally, stay positive! If you've had a few bad scales, that doesn't mean your voice is going to be bad all day. Drink some warm tea and try again. Don't get down on yourself, and don't think that your voice is bad, or it certainly will be. I know how stupid that sounds, but mindset is definitely a big part of singing, and if you don't think you sound good, neither will anyone else.

By: Cathy Miles

Lyrics That Promote “respect”

A song can be an effective tool to spread an advocacy. And promoting an advocacy through songs is easy too—people are often attracted to music and lyrics, especially if a big name artist is attached to a particular song. Many songs—present and past—tried to advocate certain issues by making people understand the rationale behind a particular cause through music and lyrics.

For instance, there are a number of songs that try to advocate respect. Of course, advocating respect may seem as important as advocating other more pressing issues, such as HIV/AIDS, cancer, international tragedies, among other. Yet, looking at these issues, one can clearly see that respect is part of these causes. In order to fully support a cause, one needs to respect the differences that are present within different cultures and beliefs. The most obvious song that fits this description is Aretha Franklin’s “Respect.”

The lyrics of the song would seem to be pertaining to a particular domestic issue rather than advocating “respect.” Nonetheless, the lyrics hit on the root cause of it all. Respect is a universal concept, after all. The song implies that “respect” is giving someone his or her dues, especially if the person truly deserves it. The lyrics go: “I'm about to give you all of my money / And all I'm askin' in return, honey / Is to give me my profits.”

Meanwhile, European singer Mika often tackles topics that can be considered as taboo in other cultures. Although the lyrics of his songs do not exactly “advocate” these causes, the fact that he performed them, and the fact that the lyrics touched on these topics should be indications that Mika promotes respect more than what the lyrics of his songs show.

An example of this is his popular song “Hey Girl (You Are Beautiful).” The lyrics of this song state that plus-sized woman deserve more love than the typical skinny female. “You take your girl / And multiply her by four / Now a whole lot of woman / Needs a whole lot more,” Mika sings. And the lyrics of this song (which was altered and used as a promotional song for the second season of the ABC show Ugly Betty) is personal for Mika—in a n interview, Mika reveals that he saw how his mother, who was overweight, experienced discrimination because of her size.

Another Mika by Mika that could be considered as somewhat controversial is “Billy Brown.” The lyrics of this song go: “Oh Billy Brown had lived an ordinary life. / Two kids, a dog, and a precautionary wife. / While it was all going accordingly to plan / Then Billy Brown fell in love with another man.” A song about homosexuality, the lyrics of “Billy Brown” seems more like a straight narrative than a typical song.

Again, many suspect that this is because Mika is gay—something he neither denies nor confirms. But in any case, by writing lyrics that tackle these issues, these artists help people understand them. After all, nothing can catch the attention of people better than a catchy tune and witty lyrics.

By: Bei Maniago1

Senses Fail - Family Tradition

GET FREE MP3 FOR THIS SONG

Chord & Whether these songs and their lyrics were meant to be controversial or not, they managed to attract attention and criticism due to their provocative content, personal bent, or supposedly malicious intentions. The criticism it attracted prompted the proper authorities to force the record companies to alter certain parts of the lyrics in order to prevent further complaints.

A recent example of this is Britney Spears’ “If You Seek Amy.” When one reads the lyrics closely, the supposedly offensive content isn’t detectable. Observe how the phrase “if you seek Amy” was inserted into the lyrics: “But all of the boys and all of the girls are begging to if you seek Amy.” The lyrics do not make sense; but one can decipher its real meaning if the phrase was assessed phonetically. Of course, many parents and concerns individuals have reported the lyrics of this song, especially since it received heavy airplay during its release. The people behind the album have expressed their intentions to change the lyrics to “If you see Amy,” at least for the radio.

Other song lyrics are not as subversive in terms of hidden meanings and playful wordplay, but they received criticism and attention due to their intention. Songs that aim to criticize the government or any form of higher power tend to receive this form of attention—especially during the earlier years. Written by Bob Dylan, this song has lyrics that openly criticize the Vietnam War during the 1960s and, in turn, the government. The lyrics urge people to embrace peace rather than war, with the lyrics claiming that “the answer, my friend, is blowin’ in the wind.” This part of the lyrics is ambiguous and vague—and it has a number of interpretations. It’s either the answer, like the wind, is easy to grasp since it is obvious and abundant; or, like the wind, it is intangible.

A further look at the songs from the 70s and the 80s would show how a number of their lyrics supposedly reference sex, drugs, and other subjects that were considered taboo then and are still considered taboo now by certain sectors. An example of this is Cyndi Lauper’s “She Bop,” a song that supposedly alludes to self-sexual stimulation. “They say I better stop—or I’ll go blind” in the lyrics of the song show that this interpretation can be accurate.

Of course, there are controversial songs that do not necessary have supposedly malicious lyrics. Sometimes, they become controversial because of the personal nature of the song and the revelations contained in the lyrics. An example of this is Taylor Swift’s “Forever and Always.” The song is apparently a break up song, with its lyrics pertaining to her break up with fellow singer Joe Jonas. According to stories circulating in the entertainment presses, Jonas broke up with Swift over the phone, in a conversation that lasted less than a minute. The lyrics of “Forever and Always” slightly touch on that story, although it attracted more attention because of the revelatory and cathartic nature of the song.

By: Bei Maniago1

Green Day Takes Top Spot On Billboard 200

<img style="float:right; margin:0 0 10px 10px;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 302px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_bW3C39IIMfM/Sis73tFV9lI/AAAAAAAAAKU/WmopPk5PM2I/s320/green-day.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5344431210986075730" />

Green Day bows at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 with "21st Century Breakdown," selling 215,000 in an abbreviated three-day sales week. The Reprise/Warner Bros. set saw an off-cycle release on Friday, May 15 in order to more closely align its world-wide street dates. Nielsen SoundScan's tracking week ends on Sunday.

"Breakdown" gives the band its second chart-topper, following 2004's "American Idiot," which debuted with 267,000 after a normal-length's week of sales. Both "Breakdown" and "Idiot" were hampered by not being stocked in Wal-Mart stores, as the big box giant declines to stock albums that carry parental advisory stickers. (Neither album was available in an edited version.)

"Breakdown's" sales figure will perhaps grow on next week's chart, when it will have a full seven-day week's worth of sales reflected on the tally. However, Eminem's "Relapse" -- which was released yesterday (May 19) -- will presumably give the rapper his fifth consecutive No. 1 album.

In non-Green Day chart news this week, Cam'Ron's "Crime Pays" (Diplomatic Man/Asylum) cashes in with a No. 3 debut, selling 43,000 copies. That gives the rapper, who has been absent from the chart since 2006, his fifth top 10 album. Paul Wall's "Fast Life" (SwishaHouse/Asylum) enters at No. 15 on the Billboard 200 with 22,000. His last set, "Get Money Stay True," bowed at No. 8 with 92,000 in 2007. He topped the tally with "The Peoples Champ" in 2005 when that set opened at No. 1 with 176,000. Roots rock singer/songwriter Steve Earle achieves the highest charting album of his career as his "Townes" set (New West) bows at No. 19 with 18,000. The effort is comprised of 15 songs written by the late Townes Van Zandt.

New rock band Parachute lands at No. 40 with its debut album "Losing Sleep" (Mercury), starting with 11,000 solely from sales through the iTunes Store. The digital retailer got the set one week early -- all other physical and digital retailers bowed the album yesterday (May 19). Not coincidentally, the set's song "Under Control" was promoted as a free single of the week in the iTunes Store, which likely garnered a lot of consumers to snap up the economically priced $6.99 album.

Elsewhere in the top 10 this week, the "Hannah Montana: The Movie" soundtrack (Walt Disney) holds at No. 2 with 68,000 (down 17%); Lady GaGa's "The Fame" (Streamline/KonLive/Cherrytree/Interscope) moves up two slots to No. 4 with 41,000 (up less than 1%); Rascal Flatts' "Unstoppable" (Lyric Street) slips one position to No. 5 with 33,000 (down 44%); Bob Dylan's "Together Through Life" (Columbia) falls one rung to No. 6 with 31,000 (down 40%); Taylor Swift's "Fearless" (Big Machine) stays put at No. 7 with 30,000 (down 25%); Chrisette Michele's "Epiphany" (Def Jam) falls from No. 1 last week to No. 8 this week with 29,000 (down 65%); Rick Ross' "Deeper Than Rap" (Maybach/Slip-N-Slide/Def Jam) falls four slots to No. 9 with 26,000 (down 24%) and Ciara's "Fantasy Ride" (LaFace) rounds out the top 10, at No. 10 (26,000; down 68%), after its No. 3 opening last week.

Overall album sales in this past chart week (ending May 17) totaled 5.82 million units, down 10.5% compared to the sum last week (6.51 million) and down 21.6% compared to the same sales week of 2008 (7.43 million). Year to date album sales stand at 136.4 million, down 13.3% compared to the same total at this point last year (157.3 million).

Source:billboard.com

Paramore Road Testing 'Mature' New Sound

<img style="float:right; margin:0 0 10px 10px;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 212px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_bW3C39IIMfM/Sis5CRhii6I/AAAAAAAAAKM/YgmEqIoesyM/s320/paramore.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5344428094031825826" />
Paramore's third album is finished, and the group is chomping at the bit to play the new material -- even though most of it will stay on ice until the as-yet-untitled set is released this fall.

"It's hard going back to your old stuff after we've been strictly focusing on new material for the past three months," drummer Zac Farro tells Billboard.com. "You're excited about (the album) 'cause it's done and you just want to go out and play those songs. But there's a lot that has to be done to set it up, so it doesn't come out for awhile and you're just going back and playing your other two records when you just want to play all the new stuff."

Farro says that Paramore is including two songs from the new album -- the follow-up to 2007's platinum "Riot," recorded in Los Angeles with Rob Cavallo producing -- in its opening sets for No Doubt, including the likely first single "Ignorance."

"A lot of people have told us that (the album) is a very mature sound," Farro says. "I don't think we were aiming to be just more mature or whatever, but that's really cool to hear. I think there's a lot of new directions on the record. It sounds more like our live show to me, and the songs are just a lot deeper and have a lot more going on and everybody's parts are really special."

As for pressure to follow up "Riot's" success, Farro says that "there's always gonna be pressure. We tried to push that aside and just make a record we loved. The fans might not like it, and they might think it's too different and whatnot, but at the end of the day we love it and that's the best we can do."

The drummer expects Paramore to do "some heavy touring, like we always do" once the new album is released. But don't expect to see the group, whose "Decode" was a hit from last year's "Twilight" soundtrack, to be haunting subsequent editions of the series.

"We don't want to be, like, the vampire house band," he explains. "It was really fun to be a part of that, and great exposure, but I think 'Twilight' was it for us. Rock guitar lessons will only teach you the basics and advanced techniques. You still need to understand and practice enough to be able to master the art of performing rock guitar. The first phase in rock guitar courses will start with theory which will help you to understand the basic parts of the rock/electric guitar, standard notations, guitar symbols, and basic chord theory. You will also learn to play different scales and chords. You will discover to utilize your views and sentiments to perform the guitar so that in the later stages when you are ready to play, you and your guitar will become one!

The next phase of rock guitar lessons will focus on soloing. You may have been overcome by those amazing guitar solos that you have watched at live concerts or on Channel V or VH1. So here’s your chance to learn soloing, which will include beginner, intermediate, and advanced lessons. In the beginner lessons you will understand more about hammer-ons, bends, open position scales, and vibratos. The intermediate lesson is where you will discover to do your own solo and perform it as well. You will also get to learn how to use natural harmonics and play major scale modes. When you reach the advanced soloing lessons, you will be confident enough to produce your solos and this will persuade you to play them more often. The advanced rock guitar courses will help you to perform different techniques especially with speed.

Speed is an important part of performing the rock guitar as well as soloing and you will really have to rehearse a lot to be able to move your hand freely across the guitar chords at high speed. Once you have mastered the scales, the chords and how to fly your hand over the guitar, you are ready to rock!

Rock guitar is not easy to understand but then it is not impossible because we will handhold you through each and every step of our rock guitar lessons. Consider your price limitations. What's the maximum you will spend on a MP3 Player or
Mp3 Players , ? This will immediately narrow the field. But don't feel compelled to max out your credit card.

2. Find a suitable design. A player can have every feature in the world, but if the design doesn't match your lifestyle or if the interface is impenetrable, you still won't enjoy it.

3. Check the storage capacity. How much music do you have? Do you think you could, or would, listen to all of it on your MP3 Player?

4. Check the size and weight. Would it be comfortable in your pocket or on your belt? How about when you're moving around?

5. Consider a video feature. One justification for an enlarged hard drive is if you want to store pictures and videos on your portable media player.

6. Consider radio options. There are some Players that will both FM and AM radios stations as well as playing Mp3s , in your car.

7. Check out the battery life. How long and how often do you use it?

8. Check out the headphones, MP3 players use standard stereo headphones. If you don't like the headphones that come with a player, there are a variety of styles you can purchase.

9. Make sure any potential purchase works with your computer. Many Mp3 Players , don't work with Macintosh computers, though that's improving.

10. Look for wide file format support. All players should support the MP3 format, but if you prefer WMA, AAC, or Ogg Vorbis, make sure your player of choice can handle the files.

11. Look at the special features. If you work out a lot, or are often physically active, you might want to consider splash-resistant player, or at least a waterproof skin to cover it.

12. Take a test drive as there's nothing like a hand on experience. Go to your local store and try out the controls, does the player's menu system make sense to you, and is the interface easy to use? If you can't find the songs, artists, or albums you want to play quickly and easily, keep looking.

By: cell phines

By: Mr3m4n
